Feet: a meditation

How lovely on the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who announces peace
And brings good news of happiness

Isaiah 52:7

Take five minutes and grab a bottle of lotion. Take off your socks and shoes and look at your bare feet. What do you see? What aspects of your feet do you like? The curve of a toe, the strength of the ankle? The way the little toe waggles?

Now put some lotion on your hands and massage your feet. Just a little, five-minute foot vacation. Think about all the places your feet go to take you where you need to be–up steps, through pinched shoes and broad sandals, down hills, through muddy gutters–just so you can bring good news.

What good news do you bring? Where do you bring peace? Happiness? Through a meal, an email, a phone conversation? Through the work you do from your desk? your car? your living room? Your feet make this possible.

In these five minutes, thank your feet for all they do. Appreciate your toes.
